Ok guys here is a cheap campsite right near MacKay it’s called Rowallan Park, it is located 10 minutes north of Mackay and the address is 290 Glendaragh Rd, Richmond, Queensland. The park is on 104 Acres of natural bushland with so many bush walks. The road into this is not that good, it is a solid dirt road with heaps of rocks sticking up from the road. If it rains the road will become very slippery. But it only goes for about 300m. There are a few places were you can camp in this area.
There is the top camping area which only has about 6 sites, most of the sites in the top area are level and they have their own fire pits. And if you go for a walk you will find so much wood around this site. The lower campsites are near the new toilet block, and to the west of those campsites there are some sites that are among some tall pine trees which give you a bit of shelter from the sun, there is wooden BBQ’s here as well. You might have to bring a BBQ plate due to the plates are so rusty. This site is open to every type of vehicle from Buses to just a tent. The good thing about this site they do large group bookings here, and they have the room to host those events. I blew out, because the glass is so green and soft here, so its great on your feet.. There are two toilet blocks at this site, the old block is near the top campsites only a few mins walk, the toilets are well stocked with toilet paper and hand wash all the time and the showers are nice and hot. They need a small amount of TLC, but they still do the trick. The second toilet block near the bottom campsites are brand new and highly rate these toilets and a 5 out of 5. There is a small-ish camp kitchen in the low campsite area. Just a bit of a heads up in the lower camping area there is a pond only 50m away, so guys there is a heap of mosquitos at night..
The bins are a bit of a walk from any of the campsites, the skip bins are near the caretakers place and there are some near the camp kitchen as well.
This site has an awesome mountain bike park out the back, with wooden banking turns and jumps and 18km of track you can ride on around this 104 acre park. I just wish I had a bike with me.. Wow! Great track guys, so bring your bikes. They have a small climbing wall which is a cool thing to do for the kids, there is a large towel that they use to do abseiling from. The towel is not for the public. Just letting you know you will not be bored at this campsite. And if you forget to bring a pair of binoculars, please ask the caretakers and they can lend you a pair or two. The staff are so friendly here. They like you to book if possible, just in case someone had booked that site you ended up in. Most of the lower sites are not marked but the upper campsites are. Just drop them a line on 0408195834 to let them know you are coming, then turn up and setup and they will pop around in the afternoon to see you..Everyone is real casual at this site. A reminder that there are no pets permitted at this site.
