Kanger Valley National Park, located in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, is an important Protected Area where the process of inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List has now begun. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is conducting a scientific assessment of the park’s biodiversity, limestone caves (such as Kotumsar and Kailash), river systems, and geomorphological features.
This initiative is considered a significant step towards natural heritage conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable tourism. The topic is directly relevant to UPSC GS Paper 3 – Environment & Ecology.
