Elvers are juvenile American eels. Elvers are commercially harvested in Maine and shipped to Asia where they are grown to marketable size in aquaculture facilities. In this video elver fishermen describe the changes in elver abundances that they have noticed over the years.
This video was produced as part of an oral history project carried out by Maine Sea Grant and NOAA Fisheries in the spring of 2014 with financial support from NOAA’s Preserve America Initiative.
