Nick Brener, who took the lead—alongside racers and drag racing manufacturers—to surprise Mississippi firefighter Chad McElveen with the rebuild of his American Race Cars dragster, which was destroyed in a tornado.
Chad lost everything back in March 2025, and Nick surprised him with the rebuilt car during an emotional presentation at Gulfport Dragway on Friday. Chad was met with a huge crowd and overwhelming support from the drag racing community.
An emotional Chad thanked Brener and everyone involved, saying, “The drag racing community is my family.”
Drag racer Chad McElveen had been assisting the Tylertown, MS Volunteer Fire Department with victims after the first tornado when his own home was struck directly by a second tornado that tore through his area later that day.
Chad lost everything—including his home, shop, motorhome, trailer, and race car (dragster). However, he wasn’t at home at the time because he was volunteering to help other victims in his community.
Fortunately, Chad was insured by Laris Motorsports Insurance, who quickly processed Chad’s claim during the process.
“Laris Motorsports was great. If you dont have Laris insurance, get it. The Laris family even called me.”
The car now looks better than ever. Although Chad had Laris, it took a huge team to get him back going. Thanks to Nick’s big heart, his time and financial support, and the help of friends and family and the following generous organizations who also gave:
