Speaking at the Ideas Pod by Firstpost x Raisina Dialogue, Francesco Parisi, President of Italy-based Trieste Business Association, talked about the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), especially for Italy.

Speaking with Kaush Arha, President of US-based Free & Open Indo-Pacific Forum, Parisi said: "For us in Italy, it's extremely important to develop this corridor. And the importance of the corridor is to create alternative routes to the Suez Canal, which is shown to be fragile. If the land bridge is functioning, then the supply chain managers around the world will trust again that this is a viable connectivity between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean."

At the same session, Romana Vlahutin, Visiting Distinguished Fellow, German Marshall Fund, Belgium, discussed how the IMEC corridor will emerge as an alternative route because "the northern corridor was basically gone with the Russian attack on Ukraine", and because of "problems with the Suez Canal and the Red Sea".
She added: "If India is to be further developed as as an alternative manufacturing hub, then you really need to invest in critical infrastructure."
