The parents of slain Cleveland Police Officer Jamieson Ritter are urging state lawmakers to pass a bill they say is critical to getting justice for their son.
“We are all revictimized every single day of our lives and to stand up here is not easy,” said Karen Ritter, Officer Ritter’s mother during a House Judiciary Committee Meeting on Wednesday.
According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, De’Lawnte Hardy shot his grandmother, Beatrice Porter, in June of 2024 leading to her death. Days later, when officers attempted to take him into custody, prosecutors say Hardy shot and killed Officer Ritter.
