We set off on a 1.5-hour ferry ride aboard the Pelee Islander, bound for the historic and scenic Pelee Island. Susi grabbed our tickets, we picked up a coffee, and settled in for the cruise. We hadn’t realized the trip would take that long—but with calm waters and sunshine, it turned into the perfect opportunity to chat with fellow travellers and soak in the anticipation of discovering somewhere new.
Located in Lake Erie, west of Leamington and Kingsville, Pelee Island is home to around 235 residents. It’s the largest island in Lake Erie and the southernmost populated point in Canada—a true gem for nature lovers, bird watchers, and wine enthusiasts.
We explored the island’s history at Town Hall, enjoyed a delicious meal at The Stone House Restaurant, and rented a golf cart to tour the island. Highlights included the historic lighthouse and a visit to Pelee Island Winery, a stunning facility said to be the oldest in North America.
After a hot day of exploring, we cruised back to Kingsville under a breathtaking sunset—a perfect end to a memorable island escape.
