A police chief has resisted calls to sack the chief constable embroiled in the Maccabi fan ban row, even after Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she had lost confidence in him.
Ms Mahmood described a report into West Midlands Police’s handling of the ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans travelling to a November match against Aston Villa as “damning”, and indicated that chief constable Craig Guildford should step aside.
However, Simon Foster, the region’s police and crime commissioner and the only person with the authority to dismiss Mr Guildford, said he would delay any decision until he had fully reviewed the findings.
