This is the only couple to ever get married inside Rashtrapati Bhavan, but why were they given such a rare privilege?
Rashtrapati Bhavan is the official residence of the President of India.
It is also one of the largest official residences in the world.
Usually, Rashtrapati Bhavan is used to host India’s Presidents and major international leaders — but for the first time ever, a wedding took place there on 12 February 2025.
The couple was Poonam Gupta and Avinash Kumar.
Poonam Gupta is an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and was posted at Rashtrapati Bhavan as a Personal Security Officer.
Her fiancé, Avinash Kumar, is also an Assistant Commandant in CRPF.
Their wedding took place at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex inside Rashtrapati Bhavan.
President Droupadi Murmu personally granted permission for this wedding.
She was deeply impressed by Poonam Gupta’s performance and dedication.
In fact, Poonam had led the all-women CRPF contingent during the 74th Republic Day Parade, which caught the President’s attention.
That’s why, as a mark of recognition and honor for her outstanding service, Poonam was granted this rare privilege.
