As I saw it, Te Kakahi sailed out from the base around 1250hrs today. They sailed upwind, tacking a few times before heading around the northern end of Browns Island. They spent around 2.5 hours training on Course E, near Beachlands. The derigged while sheltered next to Motuihe Island, before returning to base under tow around 1645hrs.

It was interesting to see both boats in the water in the dock this morning at the same time. The other one was was then lifted out of the water and put back in the shed, before Te Kakahi left the base. Hopefully we'll see them both out on the water together soon!

For sure, the value that Liv and all the next-gen Emirates Team New Zealand sailors showed today cannot be underestimated. The Kiwis are masters at bringing through talent at the right time and offering the kind of invaluable training that their deep experience all the way through the team can offer and this is a huge transition point for the America’s Cup. Blair Tuke was full of praise for Liv afterwards, speaking with the recon unit saying: “She went well, especially in the gybes which seems to be one of the most difficult things to learn in these boats. She is used to steering out of gybes in the F50 so that seemed to help a bit.”

Emirates Team New Zealand are changing the game once again and it’s electric to watch. The future of the America’s Cup was there before our eyes today.

On-Water Recon Unit Notes: Good three-hour session mainly on the back paddock. Two areas of significant wind against tide chop, both transited through. One off North Head, the other between Motuhei and Waiheke. No sail changes. Three crew rotations.
