Sometimes it’s not the O-rings that attached the expansion valve. They’re actually O-rings at the adjustment screw on the bottom of the expansion valve that could leak..
Sometimes an expansion valve will be halfway through the firewall sheet metal with two of the O-rings on the inside of the vehicle. This can cause refrigerant to leak inside the vehicle and if a technician picks up a refrigerant leak inside, it may not be the evaporator that’s leaking but the O-rings to the expansion valve..
Some expansion valves on the firewall or mounted so all four O-rings are on the outside in the engine compartment. And the pipes going through the firewall are sealed airtight..
So no refrigerant will leak out inside the passenger compartment.
