Reinier Zeldenrust - The science of thermal comfort (Nerd Nite London 15 November 2023)

Описание: Winter is coming - time to learn the science of thermal comfort to make yourself happier, sleep better and save money!

With the advent of central heating and air conditioning, we spend most of our time inside at very constant temperatures (except when on the central line in summer, or waiting for the night bus on a windy evening in November). What does this do to us? What are we missing out on? What did our grandparents do better? In this talk, Reinier will talk about the psychology and science of thermal comfort and thermal delight - how we can feel positive emotions from our thermal environment, and how we might be able to enhance those. He’ll also explore links to energy efficiency and why the switch to heat pumps is a mental leap we must make.

Reinier Zeldenrust has degrees in astrophysics and environmental design from Utrecht and Cambridge University. He is a Nerd Nite veteran and has previously worked within engineering and architecture firms such at Atelier Ten and Foster + Partners on designing (maybe too) perfect thermal and visual environments for offices and retail. He also spent time teaching environmental design in the US and Rwanda. Recently, Reinier co-founded a company called Kuppa to help people improve their homes and switch away from fossil fuels.
