Two Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLAs—Sanatan Mahakud and Arabinda Mahapatra—have been suspended from the party. Arabinda Mahapatra is the Patkura MLA and the son of senior leader Bijay Mahapatra. Reacting to the development, Bijay Mahapatra said he was also surprised after hearing about the suspension.

Speaking on the issue, Bijay Mahapatra stated that his son had always worked for the party and had not indulged in any anti-party activities. He maintained that Arabinda Mahapatra remained committed to the organisation and expressed shock over the disciplinary action.
