First of all, well done for what you do, and thank you for promoting choral music, especially from current composers!

Regarding "The Orphans", it is a song written for a performance for UNICEF. I have always been extremely concerned about the subject of childhood and the lack of equal opportunity at birth. It seemed interesting to me that French children, who do not know the horrors of war, could put themselves in the shoes of a child who sees his life disappear overnight due to political decisions that do not concern them.

It is a song that is not happy, since these children no longer have hope at the end, except for the believer who sees in death the possibility of finding loved ones, here the parents of the child. But it's a song that I hope should also convey all the candor and emotion of a child, innocent in the face of events beyond him.

For this song the writing of the lyrics and the composition of the music (I always write the two together, very rarely one before the other) was rather fast, there was no blockage or inspiration failure. Usually, when the writing is motivated by a strong subject, it is quite natural.

Of course, I hope the audience will appreciate it for what it is, just by letting the emotions flow even though the language barrier prevents understanding of the text.

Concernant « Les orphelins », il s’agit d’une chanson écrite à l’occasion d’une prestation pour l’UNICEF. J’ai toujours été extrêmement préoccupé par le sujet de l’enfance et de l’absence d’égalité des chances à la naissance. Il me semblait intéressant que les enfants français, qui ne connaissent pas les horreurs de la guerre, puissent se mettre dans la peau d’un enfant qui voit sa vie disparaître du jour au lendemain en raison de décisions politiques qui ne les concernent pas.

C’est une chanson qui n’est pas heureuse, puisque ces enfants n’ont plus d’espoir à la fin, si ce n’est pour le croyant qui voit dans la mort la possibilité de retrouver les êtres aimés, ici les parents de l’enfant. Mais c’est une chanson qui, je l’espère, doit également transmettre toute la candeur et l’émotion de l’enfant, innocent devant des événements qui le dépassent.
Pour cette chanson, l’écriture du texte et la composition de la musique (j’écris toujours les deux ensemble, très rarement l’un avant l’autre) ont été plutôt rapides, il n’y a pas eu de blocage ou de panne d’inspiration.
Généralement, quand l’écriture est motivée par un sujet fort, elle est assez naturelle. J’espère bien sûr que le public saura l’apprécier pour ce qu’elle, en se laissant simplement porter par les émotions même si la barrière de la langue empêche la compréhension du texte.
