The Borders Railway is one of the few lines in Scotland I have not travelled on, so cross this off my list. I catch the train from Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank, follow the River Tweed, see Melrose Abbey and the town for the first time, see evidence of the fascination for rugby, including Melrose RFC, and go off the beaten track looking for a lost well and some mysterious towers.
