First DIY root touch up (bleach fail chronicles)

It was finally time for my first root touch up since bleaching my brunette hair and I think I had all these wild high hope ideas going into it…

Before I go any further, I do want to take a moment to thank everyone for their helpful feedback on my previous videos. I am really grateful for this very kind and supportive community that exists here on youtube. Definitely makes it stand out from any other social media platforms that I have been apart of. I welcome and appreciate all comments/suggestions. I am not a hairdresser, but learning as I go so your expertise is trusted.

Ok so my plan was:
1. Bleach the roots in the back of my head and lift to the lightest yellow. I use 7 volume bleach because my hair lifts very quickly. As dark as it is most people would recommend using a 30 volume but I am going off my original strand test in my first video and 7 volume works on my fine hair.

2. I foiled slices of hair on the front sides (temples) since they were last and wanted them to heat up a bit and process so everything could be washed out at the same time.

3. Took the small amount of bleach leftover ( which had also been developing for a bit of time, added in water & shampoo to make a very weak bleach bath mixture which I applied through the rest of my hair before rinsing.

4. I made a decision to do the top mohawk section in a different bleaching session because I wanted to stop the other areas and take my time doing the most noticeable part on my head. (Joke’s on me)

5. The next day, I worked on this new section, but only after I touched up any warm/dark pieces that needed it. I started in the front of the mohawk with some thin slicing and foils, leaving some thin sections between each. I worked my way front to back. It seemed easier to pull the foils forward as I worked. I hoped that this would create some light pieces breaking up the grown in root.

6. When I rinsed it out , it was a disaster, orange, pale yellow , brunette all in the same area.

7. I immediately went in with more bleach and went over this whole area again.

8. Then I worked on a darker root shadow and tones the ends with level 9/10 mixture ( cant remember what exact tones i used) it looked
okay at first, but the next morning with different lighting my roots were orange.

9. The next day, I went in with 8T (.34oz) and 7N (.25 oz) on the roots in diagonal vertical bands starting in front and working towards the back pulling the hair forward trying to blend the root color as much as possible.

10. I, then, toned the mid-length to the ends with 10vv and 9GI, 10n. Left it on for 20 minutes, rinsed and styled. Hair was definitely compromised a bit.
