Hi, I am Daniel with etrailer and today we're gonna take a look at, and I'm gonna how to install the Westin tailgate mat on our 2024 Ram 1500. If you're somebody who's gonna be sliding stuff in and outta here, maybe you're a contractor and you have a bunch of wood in here all the time. And then chance are, you're gonna start damaging your tailgate. So just having some extra protection here, this just piece of rubber, it's gonna protect your tailgate and make it last a lot longer. And speaking of someone who's going to be scratching up their bed, we do offer in-bed mats here at etrailer as well, so you can protect your tailgate and your bed. This one fits really nicely.

As you can see, it's contoured to your tailgate, so it's gonna have a nice fit. As far as the install goes, you may need to do a little bit of retrofitting. The kit doesn't come with all the hardware you need, so probably gonna have to take a trip to the hardware store. We did use some washers underneath here for spacing, and the washers in the kit were a little bit too big, but we'll go ahead and show you that in the install. Now, if you're ready to get this installed, follow along and I'll walk you through it.

The first thing you wanna do when you get your mat is it's gonna be rolled up in the packaging, so it's a good idea to put it out in the sun and have it nice and flat. Now I'm gonna put it on our tailgate and get it centered up. Now what you're looking for is for these holes to be on the high point of the ridge because that's where we're gonna be. That's where we are gonna put our hardware. So those are looking good.

But, the ones in the front here, these are actually gonna line up with our factory hardware, which is nice, but it's in this valley here. So we are gonna have to build this set with some washers. I'm gonna take these four out closest to the rear. I'm using a T30 bit to get these removed. And there's a plastic washer on the back.

I'm gonna take this out, and just put that back over the hole. (drill whirring) So unfortunately the kit does not come with washers in order to do this, but I already determined how many we need, so I'm just gonna put seven on here. Get those lined up. I'm going to want quite a few washers because you're gonna have to stack these up until it's level with your tailgate. Now I'll take our mat and I'm gonna use a drill bit and drill right in the center here. (drill whirring) And I'm just using a 964th drill bit 'cause that's what we're gonna use later on to drill into the metal. It's a little small, but you can actually get these two go through with that. I'll bring this over. Careful not to knock all the washers over. And I'm not gonna bear down on it yet. I'm gonna get the other ones attached first. Now I'll take my drill bit and I'll drill into the tailgate itself with that same drill bit, 964th. (drill whirring) And grab the Phillips head screw that comes in the kit and a washer and get this put on. And we did have to pick up these washers because the ones that comes in the kit, that one doesn't really fit down in this recessed hole here. Now, I'll just take a Phillips head bit and dip this screw in. Now repeat that process for the remaining holes here. Once you tighten everything down, you're good to go and you can start using your Westin tailgate mat on your 1024 Ram 1500.
