😴 WHY JACKIE IS SO TIRED TODAY:
Yesterday was not a quiet day at the Big Bear nest. Jackie and Shadow had to defend their nest against an intruder — a reminder that even with two precious eggs counting down toward pip watch, the outside world never stops challenging this pair. Territorial defense is physically and mentally demanding. Jackie had to be alert, vocal, and ready to act at a moment's notice to protect everything she and Shadow have worked so hard to rebuild this season.
And after all of that — she came right back to the nest. Settled right back over the eggs. Because that is exactly who Jackie is. 💗

💤 SLEEPY JACKIE — WHAT YOU ARE WATCHING:
Those half-closed eyes. That low settled posture. The way her head droops just slightly before she catches herself. Sleepy Jackie is one of the most beloved and relatable things the FOBBV community gets to witness — because it is a reminder that behind all that fierce power and dedication is a living, breathing, genuinely tired eagle who has been carrying this season on her wings. 😭💙
Eagles sleep in short 10-20 minute bursts — never fully switching off, always partially alert. Even now, as exhausted as Jackie looks, part of her is always watching. Always listening. Always ready. The eggs beneath her are safe. They are always safe with Jackie. 🥚

🦅 ABOUT JACKIE:
Approximately 14 years old, Jackie is the queen of the Big Bear nest and is believed to be the first Bald Eagle ever hatched and fledged in Big Bear Valley — her parents were named Ricky and Lucy. She first appeared on camera in fall of 2016 and began using the nest in 2017. Large and in charge, fierce and devoted — her deeper "chortle" voice, squared shoulders, thick yellow beak and flat-topped head make her unmistakable. She has raised and fledged 4 eaglets — Simba, Spirit, Sunny and Gizmo — and she is not done yet. 💗

ABOUT SHADOW:
Approximately 12 years old, Shadow is Jackie's devoted partner since 2018 — when he famously won Jackie over by replacing her former mate Mr. B through sheer persistence and nest building skills. The community's beloved nest manager — bringing sticks, fluff and fish gifts, famous for his sharkfin wing lift and his lighter "snortle" voice. When Jackie needs rest, Shadow is always right there. 💙
