Lake District Hiking Wainwrights - Scar Fell - Lord’s Rake via Great Moss - Scafell stands at 3,162 feet (964 metres), making it the second-highest peak in England. While often overshadowed by its neighbour, Scafell Pike, this mountain offers a quieter and equally dramatic hiking experience. Alfred Wainwright described Scafell as “a mountain of massive grandeur” in Book Four: The Southern Fells, noting its imposing crags and steep ascents.
This hike went via Great Moss, a vast and remote valley surrounded by towering peaks, offering a wild and rugged approach to the summit via Lord’s Rake, an infamous gully on Scafell’s western face.
The hike provides breathtaking views and is a must if you are after a quieter hike than Scarfell Pike
