I had to fabricate an essix retainer for patient SM, who was debonded approximately 1 month ago. The great thing about Essix retainers is the speed and ease of fabricating them - the downside - is that they are delicate. He is a bruxer and I believe that he wore the appliance out. Normally, a hawley retainer would most likely be indicated, however, we are about to embark on a full mouth rehab.
