Controlled Articular Rotations: "Using active, rotational movement drills at the outer limits of motion in order to stimulate articular adaptations, outer range control, and kinesthetic awareness" (Andreo Spina, FRC training lecture).
Setup:
-Stand in an organized position.
-feet straight (creating external rotation torque)
-butt squeezed
-midline braced
-skull over ribs, ribs over pelvis.
*As a student of my body, I could be in a more organized position. I look slightly lordotic.
Execute:
-Solidify stability everywhere but the wrist joint doing the CARs.
-The goal is to demonstrate articular independence.
-I am using my other hand to block my elbow in extension. I have a tendency to recruit elbow movement to makeup for lack of wrist range of motion.
-Do at least two full rotations one direction (flexion, radial deviation, extension, ulnar deviation) and two full rotations the other direction (extension, ulnar deviation, flexion, radial deviation).
