Across Canada, racialized immigrant women often face complex and layered barriers when accessing front-line services. Traditional and present-day service models, even when designed to help, are often built on foundations that do not fully recognize how multiple forms of systemic oppression, including racism, sexism, colonialism, and xenophobia, overlap and shape the experiences of racialized immigrant women.
However, feminism, when rooted in intersectionality, offers a critical framework for frontline programming. It addresses that immigrant women are not homogenous group and that programs must address the increasing effects of social, political, and economic marginalization. Without this framework in place, service providers fortify exclusionary practices that may further broaden social inequities.
Therefore, this webinar aims to equip service providers with the tools and strategies needed to address feminism and intersectionality into the foundation of frontline programming for immigrant women. It will also explore how adopting these frameworks can better service delivery and meet the diverse needs of immigrant communities.
