A welcoming trend in the #London contemporary #art scene this past year would definitely be the disappearing boundary between different formats and how artists are increasingly embracing multi-sensory experience within the standard white box setting.
The latest show by Peter Doig in the Serpentine Gallery is one of those which defies categorisation and simply bring a relaxing atmosphere to viewers to make them feel at ease to visit a gallery, enjoy the soothing music from rare sound systems and vintage recordings in comfortable seatings, and admire the beautifully-drawn paintings hung on the wall.
Let's hope to see more shows like this which encourage more people to connect with contemporary art, and give people the much-needed break from AI, infographic-overload and never-ending notifications on wearable devices.
Art is what inspires people for creative and critical thinking, and we need that more than ever in 2026.
