Beef Burgers with Caramelized Onions and Egg (4 burgers)
Ingredients:
For the Sauce:
• Japanese mayonnaise
• Dijon mustard
• Horseradish
• Fresh lime juice
• Sriracha sauce
For the Caramelized Onions:
• 2 large onions, thinly sliced
• Salt, to taste
• Black pepper, to taste
• Sweet chili sauce
• Heavy cream
For the Beef Patties:
• 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
• Salt, to taste
• Black pepper garlic seasoning
• Meat seasoning
• Olive oil
Additional Ingredients:
• 4 burger buns
• 4 eggs
• 4 cheese slices (cheddar or mozzarella)
• Red onion rings
Instructions:
1. In a small bowl, combine the Japanese mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, horseradish, fresh lime juice, and Sriracha sauce. Mix until smooth.
2. Adjust the amount of Sriracha sauce to your preferred level of spiciness.
3. Set aside the sauce for later use.
4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
5. Add the sliced onions and stir to coat them evenly with the oil.
6. Reduce the heat to low and cook the onions slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and golden brown.
7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
8. Stir in the sweet chili sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
9. Add the heavy cream, stirring well to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cream is absorbed and the onions become creamy.
10. Remove from heat and set aside.
11. In a mixing bowl, season the ground beef with salt, black pepper garlic seasoning, and meat seasoning. Mix until just combined.
12. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
13. Heat olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
14. Cook the patties on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
15. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt the cheese.
16. Once the cheese is melted, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
17. Using the same skillet, toast the burger buns from both sides until golden brown. Set aside.
18. In a clean skillet, heat a small amount of olive oil over medium heat.
19. Crack the eggs into the skillet and fry until the whites are set but the yolks remain runny (or to your preference).
20. Season the eggs with a pinch of salt if desired.
21. Spread a generous amount of the prepared sauce on both halves of the toasted buns.
22. Add a portion of caramelized onions on top of the sauce. (In the video, the onions were placed on top of the burger meat, which caused the egg to slip off the burger. Adding the onions before the meat is the best choice to prevent this.)
23. Place a beef patty with melted cheese on top of the onions.
24. Gently place a fried egg on top of each patty.
25. Add red onion rings and finish with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
