From its inception to its closing, the Silverdome, with a seating capacity of 80,325 was one of the country's greatest stadiums for sports and entertainment including NFL football, NBA basketball and World Cup soccer. The indoor stadium, located in Pontiac MI. was built to be the home of the Detroit Lions NFL franchise. Concerts included The Who, Rolling Stones, Metallica, Elvis, Madonna, Bob Seger, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson , Aerosmith and many more.
Other notable events included Pope John Paul celebrating Mass, Wrestlemania III with Andre the Giant & Hulk Hogan, Super Bowl XVI and many other historic events.
