In February, we teamed up with Norfolk County Council, DEFRA, Natural England and the Tree Council to bring an innovative Japanese method of tree planting to North Norfolk.
The Miyawaki Method, named after Dr. Akira Miyawaki, was developed in Japan as a rapid biodiversity response to habitat loss following flooding.
it involves careful soil preparation and densely planting a range of native woodland plants that are beneficial to wildlife on an area usually around the size of a tennis court.
Trees in a Miyawaki forest grow up to ten times faster and can absorb more carbon and are an effective localised solution to fighting climate change.
The mini forests were planted at Cooper Road in Sheringham, Acorn Road in North Walsham and Warren Avenue in Fakenham.
