Using resistance is an extremely effective way to find a feel for a strong impact, we can use those same principles to find a feel for the takeaway and the backswing sequence.
This drill is excellent if you feel like your arms get disconnected from your pivot in the takeaway and backswing and also great if you struggle with swaying off the ball to much.
Using resistance in the takeaway encourages the lead shoulder and core to engage and at the same time create more stability through your trail foot.
It creates a sequence that gives you a sensation of loading your backswing in a way that makes the downswing feel athletic and automatic.
