Brilliant mare Mecca's Angel goes back-to-back in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (2016) | Racing TV

Описание: What a fantastic racemare - the flying Mecca's Angel lands a second Group 1 success on her beloved Knavesmire with a repeat success in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes for trainer Michael Dods, jockey Paul Mulrennan and local owner David Metcalfe.

The Dark Angel mare beat Wesley Ward's rapid juvenile Acapulco the previous season in the big York sprint from off the pace, but this subsequent success was fairly straightforward in a victory that is testament to Mecca's Angel huge sprinting ability.

Among the previous or subsequent Group 1 winners beaten in this race include runner-up Limaro, sixth Profitable and eighth Sole Power.

This special success was to prove Mecca's Angel final racecourse victory. She concluded her racing career at the end of the season as a five-year-old, winning half of her starts in Group One company and retiring with 10 victories from 20 appearances.

“I’d love to say she’s complicated and I have to do this and that,” Mulrennan said, “but I just have to point her. At the two pole, I said ‘go’, and she did.”
