The Rod of Moses: 53
The Principle of Oneness

Byaan Mein Nukta-e-Tawheed Aa Tau Sakta Hai
Tere Dimagh Mein But-khana Ho Tau Kya Kahiye

The subtle point in Godʹs Oneness hid with ease in words we can explain;
But what about your mind unsound that brims with myths and idols vain?

Woh Ramz-e-Shauq Ke Poshida La Ilah Mein Hai
Tareeq-e-Sheikh Faqeehana Ho Tau Kya Kahiye

The Elder of the Shrine has traits that smack of juristʹs faith and creed:
Much thirst for view ‘No god but He,’ among his fellows cannot breed.

Suroor Jo Haq-o-Batil Ki Kaarzaar Mein Hai
Tu Harb-o-Zarb Se Begana Ho Tau Kya Kahiye

None can appraise the glee one gets, when war is on ’twixt good and bad:
He who canʹt inflict deadly blows and strokes in war is never glad.

Jahan Mein Banda-e-Hur Ke Mushahidaat Hain Kya
Teri Nigaah Ghulamana Ho Tau Kya Kahiye

Observations made by free born men in world with marvels so replete;
To those who own the glance of thralls none can such wonders ʹfore them repeat.

Maqaam-e-Faqr Hai Kitna Buland Shahi Se
Rawish Kisi Ki Gadayana Ho Tau Kya Kahiye!

A dervish holds a loftier rank than a monarch who wears a crown;
There is no cure for such a man, who, like paupers, has sunk down.

بیاں میں نُکتۂ توحید آ تو سکتا ہے
ترے دماغ میں بُت خانہ ہو تو کیا کہیے
وہ رمزِ شوق کہ پوشیدہ لا اِلہٰ میں ہے
طریقِ شیخ فقیہانہ ہو تو کیا کہیے
سُرور جو حق و باطِل کی کارزار میں ہے
تُو حرب و ضرب سے بیگانہ ہو تو کیا کہیے
جہاں میں بندۂ حُر کے مشاہدات ہیں کیا
تِری نگاہ غلامانہ ہو تو کیا کہیے
مقامِ فقر ہے کتنا بلند شاہی سے
روِش کسی کی گدایانہ ہو تو کیا کہیے!
