01 Gender Equity — young voices speak out (Marathi with English subtitles)

Описание: This video is set in a community in the remote Jivati Hills of Chandrapur District in Maharashtra. We meet a group of 8th grade students, at the Zilla Parishad Primary school in Himayatnagar village. These young adults of 12 to 14 are well aware of various forms of exclusion and discrimination which put girl students at a disadvantage. The students are members of the Meena-Raju Manch, a gender awareness programme which gives school students a channel to be address their social concerns by conducting activities they design with their teacher. We also meet teachers and parents and get a sense of the climate regarding education in the village. It has changed in recent times, from age-old indifference to a desire for quality, with greater participation of girls than before.
