Ringke really leaned into the rugged aesthetic with this on - oversized corners, grippy finish, reinforced looks everywhere. But in my drop tests, the numbers didn’t match the styling. Let’s take a look at how un-rugged this case actually is.

Ringke Rugged Gear for iPhone 17 Pro Max Case, Review
-I will hand it to Ringke
-they make unique cases
-he finish on the rugged case is awesome
-it doesn't feel like my phone is slipping out of my hand even with my monster iPhone 17 pro max
-case has substantially large looking flat corners
-these are going to be worth talking about in a bit
-unlike other Ringke cases, the edges aren't tapered which
-there are little feet on the back of the case which are extraneous
-they don't do anything for the case
-again, because of teh finish and design
-the grip on the case is awesome
-case weighs 52g, a hair above the average of 50g
-and at it's larger, will make your iPhone feel 68% bulkier
-for corner drops
-the iPhone felt 13G's
-that's 24% higher than average
-BUT the rotation rate was 45% better
-the settling rate was 40% better
-so high impact, great settling
-total force? Average
-for face first drops
-this case....passes
-in fact, all the Ringke cases I've tested passed
-for the initial drop, it was 11% better
-BUT the settling rate was -55% worse
-this case just kept bouncing....
-because of the GIANT AIR POCKETS
-at the end of the day, total force was better by 17%
-for the camera lump
-unlike the Rinkge fusion and onyx
-the tallest part of the lump is along the edge of said lump
-when dropped
-the initial impact is 23% better
-settling rate is 38% better
-and the total is 11% better
-these numbers are a unicorn to me because they're really good
-my best guess is that the TPU used by Ringke isn't super flexible
-BUT it's not as rigid as a PC backed one
-so this might be the perfect type of material for the camera lump?
-for protective design
-case has corners that are 2.4mm thick
-the air pockets on this case as massive
-these are comically large
-the the air pockets are the same size as the corner bumpers
-this might be an issue when it comes to corner drops I think
-for the rigidity, it only took 8.6N to bend the case 8mm
-that's 70% worse than average
-Ringke cheats out on the back of this case as the magSafe area is basically piecemealed in
-it works functionally but it's going to suffer when it comes to the next part
-for magsafe, takes 9.9N to pull, 9.4 to push
-that's basically average for an iPhone 17 case
-buttons on the case are integrated
-BUT the Ringke Rugged pulls a Spigne Tough armor
-and makes the buttons massive
-so they're easy to find
-love the finish on the action button
-the one thing I wish this case had was the button for the camera control
-can't have everything i guess
-port cutout is huge and comfortable
