When a diagnosis of leukemia hits, the first question many patients and families ask is: "What should I be eating?" Amidst a sea of conflicting online advice and "miracle cures," finding evidence-based answers can be overwhelming.

In this talk, Sahasra cuts through the noise to examine the critical link between nutrition and blood cancer. By looking at current clinical research, we discover how the plate serves as a powerful, practical tool in a patient’s integrated care plan—not as a replacement for medicine, but as an essential partner in the fight for recovery. Sahasra Charkam is a junior at the Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science and a dedicated leader within HOSA (Future Health Professionals). With a passion for bridging the gap between complex clinical research and practical community support, Sahasra focuses her work on the human impact of neurological and hematological conditions.

Her advocacy extends beyond theoretical study, aiming to improve the daily lives of those battling Parkinson’s disease and leukemia. By examining recovery and resilience through the lens of nutrition, Sahasra challenges traditional healthcare perspectives and seeks to empower patients with evidence-based lifestyle strategies. She remains committed to translating medical data into accessible, compassionate care for the community.
