The Majestics, a Canadian R&B & Soul band was formed in 1965 under the name of Jay Smith & the Majestics. Jay Smith (real name Eugene Smith) shares vocals with singer Shawne Jackson (ex-member of Jack Hardin & the Silhouettes), they quickly become one of the most requested big band in the Toronto area. Smith's involvement was short-lived, but they still recorded a single on Clip records (distributed by Aragon Records) in 1965 entitled "Driven from Home/Howlin' '". They're changing their name to Shawe & Jay Jackson & the Majestics when Jay Jackson, Shawne's younger brother, former member of the Pharahos Group, joined the group, followed some changes in staff, including: guitarist Fred Keeler (ex-member of the David Clayton-Thomas & The Shays Group); Drummer Wes Morris (ex-member of Jon and Lee and the Checkmates); saxophonists John Crone (who played with Bobby Kris & The Imperials) and William Cudmore (former member of Robbie Lane & The Disciples). The successive members who participated in the group from their beginnings to their dissolution in 1969 were: John Crone (saxophone); Orlando Guierri (trombone); Shawe Jackson (vocals); Brian Lucrow (trumpet); Wes Morris (drums); Eric Robertson (keyboards); Eugene "Jay" Smith (vocal); Bobby Star (guitar); Russ Strathdee (saxophone); Chris Vickery (bass); Jay Jackson (vocals); Dave Konvalinka (guitar); William Cudmore (saxophone); Fred Keeler (guitar); and Russ Strathdee (saxophone).
