Three times World Spearfishing Champion and Beuchat team member veteran Pedro Carbonell demonstrates how to load the Beuchat Marlin Revolution Speargun and gives some insight into the gun’s design.
This impressive gun is one of the forefathers of rollerguns and remains one of the best, with power and range unrivalled by many other larger spearguns.
Despite this guns age, the design remains durable and insightful. The muzzle has been reinforced with stainless steel plating which extends from the barrel to the end of the open muzzle. The gun uses a loading system with rubbers on either side of the gun to help combat recoil and give additional power to produce a shot which releases the spear at approximately 160km/h. The gun has been constructed of sturdy teak wood with a carbon rail down the length of the barrel to prevent flexing under the pressure of the rubbers.
To load the speargun, begin with your top rubber and then move to the bottom. When loading your bottom rubbers, begin with your longer rubber. This will be easier to load and will assist in the loading of the second shorter rubber. Once the second rubber is loaded, you can pull the first rubber back further to increase the power again and your Marlin Revolution is ready for shooting.
The gun can shoot its 8m range as effectively as a 1400mm speargun with double rubbers because of the roller set up. The rubbers on the underside of the gun continue to provide power to the shaft the entire length of the barrel and don’t become slack two-thirds of the way down, so you’re getting a higher power to length ratio. This gives you more manoeuvrability in the water as the gun is lighter and shorter than large blue water hunting guns, making tracking a breeze.
Special thanks to Pedro Carbonell for sharing his knowledge of the Beuchat Marlin Revolution Speargun.
