Public Motor Vehicles PMVs going up the Hiritano Highway in Central Province have many times complained of confrontations with the Police.
A recent incident between police and a PMV has led to the PMV owner bringing the matter to the police, with a report put at the Traffic Police in Port Moresby,
Alex Ono the chairman of the Inauaia PMV Association, in the Kairuku District said that the PMV in question was in an accident with Police after the Police had given chase to the PMV.
He added that the matter has now been put to the Police, and they hope the Police Hierarchy can look into the matter.
He mentioned instances where there were violent confrontations.
Charlie Aisa Ori Inauaia Ward 5 councillor expressed concern because most of the PMVs that are confronted by Police are from his Ward Area, and he added that the matter must be taken seriously by the police.
Ms Mary Brenda Naimo who is the PMV owner says they have Loans to pay, and continuous extortion really puts them behind their payments.
She mentioned also that they not only provide a PMV service but a vital service that helps the community back in their Village.
