Local Cuisine Adventure in Melaka
After a slow, easy morning that began with breakfast and a peaceful river walk, we spent a few hours catching up on chores before waking Brendan at a quarter past eleven. With appetites ready, we booked a Grab ride — a quick RM6.00 trip (≈ USD2/EUR1) — to Baba Ang, a Peranakan restaurant https://bit.ly/4rj0NvY tucked along Jalan Parameswara.
A Heritage Bungalow Turned Culinary Gem
Baba Ang sits inside a beautifully restored bungalow, the kind that immediately wraps you in nostalgia. The space feels part‑museum, part‑restaurant, thanks to its collection of Baba Nyonya antiques, polished wooden furniture, and bright, spotless interiors. It’s the sort of place where you instinctively slow down, take in the details, and appreciate the heritage woven into every corner.
As first‑timers, we were excited to try dishes often described as leaning toward authentic, traditional Peranakan flavours — the kind that evoke home kitchens, family recipes, and generations of culinary craft.
What We Ordered
After browsing the menu, we settled on a hearty spread:
Devil’s Curry
Chili Garam Pork
Sayur Chap Chai
2 Iced Lemon Tea
1 Lemongrass Juice
3 Cendol
Total bill: RM131.45 (≈ USD33/EUR28)
The dishes arrived steaming hot and fragrant, each one carrying the signature richness and depth that Peranakan cuisine is known for. The cendol — a favourite among regulars — lived up to its reputation with its creamy texture and satisfying sweetness.
Comforts That Make a Difference
Beyond the food, Baba Ang scores points for practical comforts:
Air‑conditioning (a blessing in Melaka’s midday heat)
Clean, well‑maintained facilities
Ample private parking, a rare luxury in the city centre
These small conveniences made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable.
Heading Back to The Apple Residences
After lunch, we booked another Grab ride back to The Apple Residences. The fare was RM14.00 (≈ USD4/EUR3)— slightly higher due to traffic building up along Jalan Parameswara toward the Melaka Raya area — but still a smooth and easy trip.
More Melaka Adventures Ahead
This meal was just the beginning. Stay tuned for our next video as we explore the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavours of Jonker Walk.
