Produced by Jim Albritton | The second annual Dental Mission Week at the University of Mississippi Medical Center was a huge success, thanks to the hard work and determination of everyone at the School of Dentistry and volunteers from the Schools of Nursing, Pharmacy and Medicine.
Jump-starting the week was Give Kids A Smile Day. More than 500 students from three local elementary schools received dental care – including cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants – valued at $117,465.
A record number of patients were seen throughout the week - 1,348 patients received 4,135 dental procedures. Forty-six denture arches were delivered. The school teamed with the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center to provide care for veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, many of whom do not qualify for dental benefits.
