Physicians, researchers, and ethicists discuss the implications of editing genes and possibly changing our collective genetic heritage.
A new method for editing and changing human genetics, called CRISPR-Cas9, was named the scientific breakthrough of 2015 by the journal of Science. This method is revolutionary because it’s potentially an easier, cheaper, and more effective way of curing or preventing a wide range of hereditary diseases. It allows everyday scientists to remove or add genes, and it’s provoked debate within the medical community about the many related ethical, social, legal, and health implications.
