For those who don't live in the United Arab Emirates, and even some people that do live in the country, there is always a surprise when you say there are some amazing locations to go kayaking.

Their surprise is understandable, the United Arab Emirates is a country within the world's fifth largest desert so water can be hard to find. But, there are a couple of locations where kayaking is possible away for the coasts and both are superb.

Hatta Kayak is one of course, probably the most well known kayaking location in the UAE. The other is Alkhor Kayak - not as high on the public radar, but I can happily tell you, it's is brilliant.

Landscape wise, it is similar to Hatta Kayak, although perhaps home to a little more vegetation on the banks of the lake but what really makes Alkhor Kayak special is its amenities.

With parking, a shop, restrooms, an idyllic terrace cafe overlooking the lake and kayak rentals at a brilliant AED30 price, it is a kayaking experience that is well worth a trip.

Extra Tips:
1. Head to Alkhor Kayak in late afternoon to get the best light and enjoy the sun dipping in the sky whilst relaxing at the terrace cafe
2. If you are visiting Alkhor Kayak, head to Wadi Shees as well for the perfect trail
3. Have a camera at the ready to get those picture perfect kayaking pictures
4. Alkhor Kayak is open from 7.30am to 5.30pm everyday

How to get to Alkhor Kayak:
1. From Dubai head east on the S142, Khor Fakkan Road
2. Follow signs for Khor Fakkan
3. Drive through the various tunnels before reaching a roundabout just before the city of Khor Fakkan
4. Come back on yourself and drive back up the hill from where you have just come
5. Shortly afterwards you will see the Al Rasifa Dam rest point on your right with ample parking
