So this is the avocado of the variety Bacon ( allegedly more cold hardy ) that I got early last autumn which has gone rapidly downhill over winter, I suspect from overwatering. so I decided to remove it from the pot and investigate the root system. Sure enough there were a fair amount of dead roots but also a few live ones so it was trying to recover. I decided the best action was to remove any of the old compost with warm water and I've gone for a 50/50 mix of coir and perlite to see if I can get the roots to recover. this ha effectively no nutrients but at this stage it's more important to get better aeration so the roots can recover. If I'm successful I can simply feed it as necessary.
