Abstract: I will introduce the basic concepts of the Hertzsprung Russell Diagram. The talk is mainly dedicated to the concepts behind the axes parameters used in the HR diagram. I will introduce the magnitude scales, radiant flux, luminous intensity, color indices, spectral classification system and luminosity classes. These all are everyday words in Astronomy, but not many students are aware of what they actually mean...
