CHECKLIST FOR DONNING DISPOSABLE GOWN

 Do the donning only in presence of a buddy to check correct donning

Before donning:
 Wear hospital scrubs before donning
 Tie hair
 Remove jewelry
 Empty pockets
 Use surgical cap
 Hydrate adequately
 Go to toilet if needed
 Proceed to donning only if you are feeling well

Enter donning area:
 Perform hand hygiene with soap and water
 Cover any cuts or abrasions with water proof dressing
 Put on rubber boots if available. Use fresh pair for each entry. Use size bigger than normal shoe size.
OR
Wear closed shoes. Put on shoe cover that covers till over the knee. Make sure it is fastened well.

 Put on N95 or FFP2 respirator
• Hold mask to cover nose and mouth
• Pull lower strap and take over the head, below the ears.
• Pull and take upper strap over the head, over the ears.
• Check if straps are tight fitting.
• Press over the nose piece and over the cheek for tight fit. the lower portion of mask should go below the chin.
• Blow out forcefully: air should not come out from around the mask when the mask is fit.
• Do not enter patient area if not fit tested.

 Put on goggles. It should be tight fit.
 Put on head cover/ hood
 Fasten the Velcro around the neck.
 It should fit around face and jaw.
 Ensure good overlap with the mask.
 Put on inner gloves (short)
 Put on long reinforced gown.
 Length should overlap 10-15 cm with the top of boot or top of shoe cover.
 If length too long- trim the length
 If too short- change the gown.
 Do not use inside tie
 Tie the gown at the side
 Ensure gown cuff fully overlaps the bottom pair of gloves
 Put on second pair of gloves (long sterile gloves)
 Should fully overlap the cuff of gowns
 Tape it with gown
 Put on outer long plastic apron
 Tie around the back at neck and waist
 Should achieve high fit with apron high up over the chest area
 Put on short shoe cover
 Put on visor/ face shield
 Ensure band of visor overlaps the hood with no skin showing
 Visor shield should overlap with sides of hood
 No skin exposed around jaw line
 Put any work gloves over this outer gloves. Put on sterile gloves if required over the outer gloves.

Buddy should always be present to check the steps and confirm correct donning.

 Write name, designation of healthcare personnel + time of donning on the gown shoulder with a marker
 Run through the checklist to ensure correct steps.

DO NOT ENTER PATIENT ROOM
• If any gap in PPE
• If N95 mask is not fit checked
• If you are feeling unwell

AFTER ENTERING PATIENT ROOM, REMAIN VIGILANT OF PPE INTEGRITY


LEAVE ROOM IMMEDIATELY AND INFORM BUDDY PRIOR TO DOFFING IF CASE OF
• High exposure episode- eg projectile vomiting
• If any concern about PPE integrity
