How To Move Baby Into a Better Position For Labor and Birth

Did you know that your baby’s position can greatly affect your birth flow?
Ideally, we want the baby entering your pelvis with their back towards your left side and their chin tucked into their chest. But sometimes our habits and activities can hinder that.
➡️Here are some easy daily practices you can do to help your baby and body be more balanced and prepared for birth!
✨Sit up and sit well! It’s so easy to fall back in your chair and schlump all day, but this puts your pelvis into a posterior tilt and rounds your lower back. Since the heaviest part of your baby is their back and the back of their head, sitting like this regularly can encourage their spine to align with yours.
✨Instead, try sitting a bit forward and allowing your belly to be a hammock for your baby. You can also replace your regular chair with a birth ball to help keep your pelvis well balanced and practice hip circles.
✨Keep your pelvis mobile! Try a rocking cat / cow. These fluid, belly down poses can release tension in the lower back muscles and encourage pelvic mobility.
✨Practice prenatal yoga! So much of our class is dedicated to pelvic balancing. We work to strengthen the hip muscles so the pelvic floor doesn’t have to kick into overdrive and tense up, and we release the psoas so your baby’s pathway into the pelvis is easier.
