How To Recondition A Car Battery That Wont Hold A Charge

1. Test the battery

The battery should be tested first to make sure that the reconditioning process is not a wasting act. Connect it to the voltmeter. If it works on 12 volts, you may continue. Leave the battery that won't hold charge and produces less than 10 volts.

2. Prepare magnesium sulfate’s solution

Before you dissolve magnesium sulfate or Epsom salt on half quartz of distilled water, heat it with the temperature around 150 degrees F. You only need 7 oz of magnesium sulfate.

3. Remove the caps

The battery features the cell caps that you should take them out. Drill the cover of the battery cells if it is sealed.

4. Drain off the battery’s fluid

The battery’s fluid should be drained off so that you can pour the magnesium sulfate’s solution inside the battery using a plastic funnel. To make sure that the solution filled inside the battery is well dispersed, shake the battery several times. Seal it again by inserting plastic plugs.

5. Recharge the battery

After you fix a dead cell on the battery, recharge it for one day. After it is fully recharged, set it again in the car. If you still have more time, it is better for you to leave the battery for around 3 to 4 days to be recharged. Thus, the battery can get its maximum energy.

6. Store the battery properly

Reduce the risk to refurbish the car battery over and over if you can properly store it when it is not use. The car battery can be located on a trickle charger if you do not use it for few weeks. It can reduce the failure of performance on the battery.
