My walking tour of Riga, Latvia, was a fascinating blend of history, culture, and beauty. The Latvian Academy of Sciences, with its striking Soviet architecture, was completed in 1956. At the Riga Central Market, I discovered that it's not only one of Europe's largest markets but also located in former Zeppelin hangars. Along the banks of the Daugava River, I learned that it's the longest river in Latvia and has been a vital trade route for centuries. In Bastejkalna Park, I found out that the park is home to the Freedom Monument, which commemorates Latvia's independence and is a symbol of national identity. While exploring the Old Town, I was amazed to learn that it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts one of the largest collections of Art Nouveau buildings in the world.
Afterward, I took a train to see Jurmala, a charming seaside resort town known for its sandy beaches and unique wooden architecture, providing a perfect contrast to the urban landscape of Riga.
