Some of the roads around here are 50 years old and don't need to be repaved. The road surface is a mixture of concrete with stone aggregate throughout. It gouges skin out on contact. The asphalt isn't that much better. Certainly not smooth, it's a slurry seal of sorts that was installed years ago. The weather has taken the roughest part off, but the road still feel bumpy underneath.
The only plus side is that both road surfaces slow you down in a hurry.
