The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase 2(A) of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, marking a major boost to urban transport infrastructure in Gujarat. The new metro corridor will span 6.032 kilometres and include five stations, of which four will be elevated and one underground.
The stations planned under the Phase 2(A) corridor are Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar, and Airport. The project is aimed at improving connectivity and easing travel for commuters across Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
With the completion of this phase, the operational length of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro network will expand to 77.63 kilometres, significantly strengthening the region’s public transportation system.
The total cost of the project, including Interest During Construction (IDC), has been estimated at ₹2,169.04 crore. Officials said the expansion will enhance urban mobility, support sustainable transportation, and further improve connectivity to key residential, commercial, and transit hubs, including the city’s airport.
