Testing the difference between two SSG designs I made on my Tricopter and to see which one produced less 'Jello' effect.
As you can tell, the results of the second design are far more desirable.
TEST 1: SSG is incorporated into the Tricopter frame, but has no way to absorb any vibration. Floored design.
TEST 2: SSG made as a single module then mounted via 4 earplugs with hot glue to the Tricopter.
This gave better results as the earplugs really helped to absorb the vibration.
Conclusion: The gimbal must be a separate unit preferably with limited attachment to the copter to avoid absorbing any vibration.
The bolts coming through the bottom plate are the only contact points hot glued to the earplugs, which in turn are hot glued directly to the Tricopter frame.
The earplugs are made from 'memory foam' which ironically, have a hard time remembering (sorry, I couldn't help myself. he he) and transferring the vibrations to the gimbal resulting in 'Jello' free footage.
I plan to refine my gimbal design for optimal performance and transferability.
Motors and props were balanced before testing but my Tricopter still presented vibration.
Footage Shot @1080p 30fps.
The Mobius ActionCam can shoot @720p 60fps which would help reduce 'Jello' but my main aim was to shoot at the wider angle of @1080p 30p.
I must say a big thanks to 'crezzee' from RCGroups.com for sharing his SSG design and knowledge to the wider community.
