कोकणात शेती या व्यवसायाबरोबरच मासेमारी हाही एक महत्वाचा व्यवसाय आहे. कोकण किनारपट्टीवरील लोकांचा हा प्रमुख व्यवसाय म्हणून ओळखला जातो. कोकणाला लाभलेल्या विशाल समुद्रकिनाऱ्यामुळे येथे मासेमारी व्यवसायाचा मोठ्या प्रमाणात विकास झालेला दिसून येतो.वेंगुर्ला येथील मच्छीमार
कोकणात विविध प्रकारचे मासे आढळतात. येथील मच्छिमार साधारणपणे उन्हाळा व हिवाळा या ऋतूंमध्ये मासेमारी करतात. मान्सूनमध्ये तुलनेने कमी प्रमाणात मासेमारी केली जाते. कारण, मान्सूनमध्ये मासेमारी करणे धोकादायक असल्यामुळे बोटी दूरवर पाठवल्या जात नाहीत.त्याचप्रमाणे मन्सून हा माश्यांचा प्रजनन कालावधी असल्याने या काळात मासेमारीवर बंदी घालण्यात येते.
कोकणामध्ये सुरमई, बांगडा,पापलेट, घोळ, बोंबील असे विविध प्रकारचे मासे मिळतात. कोकणातील मासे अनेक ठिकाणी निर्यात केले जातात. त्यामुळे मासेमारी हे आज कोकणातील अनेक लोकांच्या उपजीविकेचे मुख्य साधन बनले आहे.

According to the United Nations FAO statistics, the total number of commercial fishermen and fish farmers is estimated to be 38 million. Fisheries and aquaculture provide direct and indirect employment to over 500 million people in developing countries.[1] In 2005, the worldwide per capita consumption of fish captured from wild fisheries was 14.4 kilograms, with an additional 7.4 kilograms harvested from fish farms
