This beautiful Historical Military site is just right on the top of the Oregon Coast. This video (Part 1 of 2) focuses on the military cannons and concrete artillery battery outposts. This is the only Civil war era earthen fort on the west coast. We explore many turn of the century concrete batteries that we actually went inside. This American military installation was built to guard the mouth of the Columbia River in the state of Oregon. It first opened in 1863 and closed in 1947. It was actually attacked in WWII on June 21, 1942 by a Japanese submarine. Because of this Fort Stevens was the fist military installation in the Contiguous United States to come under enemy fire in WWII.
This historical site is a must visit located on the Oregon Coast and will amaze you…but put on your walking shoes, because just the area around the batteries and out building is on 542 Acres!
